The Twelve Days of Muskies – Day 12 – A Great Finish

What a year! 176 muskies, more 50s than ever, more smiles, more first muskies for people, more personal bests, more tv shoots, more videos, more articles, more everything!

I am a strong believer in karma, gratitude, and surrounding yourself with good people. I am very lucky to have so many great friends, great clients, and far more support than I could have imagined. I would like to take this opportunity to thank some of the people and companies who have made a real difference for me and the Ottawa River Musky Factory.

Thank you Birket Foster who manages this Facebook page and continually prods me for information, pictures, and video. Birket has built the following of the Ottawa River Musky Factory audience up to the point where our best weeks this year had over 11,000 people reading my blogs. Who would have thunk it.

Thank you Wally Robins for being a great friend, coach, promoter, and fishing partner.

Thank you to Shimano, Loomis, PowerPro, and Jackall for your sponsorship and ensuring that my guests and I fish with nothing but the best.

Thank you to Crestliner and Mercury for sponsoring my amazing Raptor fishing machine. It is simply the best boat I have ever owned and performs flawlessly day after day.

Thank you Alan Gibbins and Bill Davis, hosts of The Fish Finders TV show. I appreciate filming and fishing with you and all the laughs and smiles we have shared. You can watch one of the shows we filmed this past year over the holidays. Catch the Fish Finders on WFN on Dec 24th at 7:30 pm, Christmas Day at 10:30 am, Dec 27th at 8 pm, or Sunday Dec 28th at 12:30 am.

Thanks to Colin McKeown, host and producer of many quality TV shows including The New Flyfisher. Watch for a new episode we shot sometime in the new year.

Thank you to Nancy and Pascal at the Motel Rouleau for taking such good care of my guests. You are great hosts and keep a wonderful inn.

Thanks you to Gord Pyzer for coming to fish with me, allowing me to work with you, and for including me in your work. The article you wrote for the October issue of Outdoor Canada magazine, I will be proud of that one forever.

Thank you to Muskies Canada and specifically Peter Levick, our new National President. Peter is quite simply the best leader the Ottawa Chapter has ever had and I have no doubt he will be one of the greatest leaders Muskies Canada has ever seen.

Thank you to Dave Curtis from Fishing Fanatic Guide Service out of Kingston.

Thank you to Keean Robertson, Peter Levick, and Jay Morrisson. Being a good musky guide means being able to wear several hats at once and very few people I know have the experience, the patience, the ability to teach, and the ability to hunt like you guys do and I am grateful to have you guiding for the Ottawa River Musky Factory. These guys are good!

Thank you to my clients who this year came from Canada, the US, Germany, France, Brazil, and elsewhere. You make my life interesting and teach me many things.

Thank you Ross Nicholls for fixing my fishing rods, building my never fail leaders, making the greatest lure retriever ever which I have used to pull thousands of dollars of lures off the bottom with, and for being a good friend.

Thank you Larry Lambourne for being the best reel repair guy I know and your friendship. Larry will tell you that no one is tougher on reels than I am.

Thank you Joe Spagnoli for your skilled wood work and bait making. Spag baits rock and I appreciate the money you have helped raise for our club with your generous donations.

Thank you Sam Hill and Eddie Lalonde from River Rat Spinnerbaits. You make one of the best musky catchers the Ottawa River has ever seen. RIP Eddie. You were always a great friend and I am better for having known you.

Thank you Bob Syrenne for organizing the Elvis Open and Peter Levick for organizing the two Kahuna Cups each year. These are great musky derbies that bring many good people together and raise money for Muskies Canada.

Thank you to the Musky Boys, Christian Zimmer and Fred Bowen for your awesome video work. You can find their work on my Facebook page or check out their youtube channel.

Thank you Ted Murray for your management of my website. You are a creative guy and a good friend.

Thank you Paul Shibata, host of TSN radio’s Renegade Bass Show. I really enjoy being on your program and the fishing community of Ottawa is a better place because of you and all your contributions to it.

Thank you Ken Stunell for teaching me so long ago that people would pay you money to go fishing. I would have gone fishing anyway.

Thank you Andre Lalonde Marine in Wendover. Andre is the best boat man I have met in my life and I appreciate your support.

Being a musky guide is very far from a normal life. This is my third career and I will fish forever. Thanks to God and the universe for leading me to such a rewarding and satisfying profession. There are many many many nights through the season where I giggle myself to sleep. I feel truly blessed for the opportunity to share a passion with so many like minded people and in such a special place as the Ottawa River.

Merry Christmas to all of you and thank you for caring. Every year we get bigger and better and wait until you see where we go next year. The new Shimano camera will help us produce and deliver regular video blogs and build a tips and techniques library that will hopefully help lots of you catch more muskies, laugh a little more, and be wowed even more often.

I leave you with just one picture in this post. It is of the last musky of the season. I can’t wait to show you the first musky of next season.

See you at the Pennsylvania Musky Max, The Canadian Musky Odyssey, The Valley Sportsman Show, or any of the other events this winter where I will be sharing my experiences.

your friend,

JA
