When Guides Guide Guides or How to Take Care of Your Ladies.

A good guide knows that the old adage never applies more than in the boat; if mama ain’t happy ain’t no one happy. When I have a couple out in the boat experience tells me to get the guy fishing and start paying special attention to his partner. The guy gets to focus on fishing and his lady gets special coaching, care, and attention and everyone enjoys the day. And just so I don’t look too old or sexist, the exact opposite happens as well as was the case last month with awesome California fly thrower Jessica Strickland and her new-to-fishing Beau.

In November I had the pleasure of hosting my friend and fellow guide Dave Curtis (Fishing Fanatic) and his musky world record holding wife Doris. Last year Doris reeled in the longest musky ever caught by a woman at 59 inches. November makes it tough out on the water sometimes but with two guides in the boat you know the ladies are going to be looked after. So here are some tips:

Start them out with fine food and music. We chose a concert with veteran rocker Randy Bachman (who hasn’t lost a thing over the years), Whitehorse, and Kelly Prescott to go along with fine wine, shrimp and mussels.

If the weather is too bad to fish just stay home with more wine and seafood. Sunday was also a rough one but our hearty ladies wanted their muskies (perhaps a slight exaggeration of their enthusiasm) and so we layered up and headed out.

After you get your great big figure eight musky immediately take your ladies to a five-star resort for martinis and more seafood. Here’s Doris dressed to the nines and proud as can be over the stains of musky pooh she was sporting on her best survival suit under garments. Musky pooh is the symbol of success in November as all the big fish are gorging and, well…….. No musky pooh, no trophy stories.

Another magnificent sunset and our trip was complete.
